Any thoughts on whether its better to use plain table salt (NaCl only) for pre-loading (like up to the night before dose) I think I read on another list a year or so ago that the potassium chloride and other salts are more harsh on the horses mouth's if not their stomachs, and it seems like they should not need extra of the other electrolytes until they are exercising and using them? since they can get those things from their normal diets. I did this with my horses beforing hauling them last time and they seemed more willing to eat their beet pulp with plain salt added in, and they drank well at ridecamp. Grey especially does not volantarily consume food that has had normal elytes mixed in, but he didn't mind just a little plain salt added in. I'm planning to continue this, but would like input on when would be best to switch to normal elytes. (night before, morning pre-dose, or not until after actually starting exercise?)
