This is part of a post that I sent to a very helpful person on this list:
I like to compare what everyone says, and try to make my own decisions. I'm sorry if I don't jump on the band wagon and agree with the more experienced people sometimes, but I don't think I have the knowledge base to be saying anything on most topics. I do like to see the opinions of everyone, sometimes what I thought was cut and dried, turns out different when seen from a different perspective.
I like to see discussions, even arguments sometimes, and I even like to hear from people with a financial interest. Sometimes they have knowledge, or a perspective, that I haven't heard, and would like to look into further. I like to hear from Roger regarding HRM's, I like to hear from the different saddle makers to hear what they have to say, I love to hear from the nutrition people, especially Susan who doesn't push one brand but will tell you if she likes it. I like to hear from the different trainers/breeders to hear what they are looking for in a horse, or what they feel you should stay away from, and what kind of conditioning each one does.
I have come a long way, but still have a long way to go. I haven't done a ride at all yet, have crewed and volunteered, gone through a lot of horses looking for one that is sound and sane, and finally think I may start this year. I'm sure I will have tons of questions as I start, probably questions that have been answered a thousand times but take on new meanings as I start to ride.
