For those in the are in Melbourne during this time
or who have registered already - as part of the
Australian X-ray Analytical Association (AXAA)
National Schools and Conference (8th to 12th February) -
there will be a hands-on Rietveld workshop on the Tuesday
afternoon (9th Feb) utilising a room with 25 Pentium 300
MHz PCs at the Victorian College of Pharmacy (where the AXAA
conference is located).
http://www.latrobe.edu.au/www/axaa/axaa99/
Stream programs are also on the web via this page.
The aim of the workshop will be to try and give
a feel for performing Rietveld analysis.
Using the Graphical User Interface option of
LHPM-Rietica for Windows and a "frustrated
learning" approach (which seems to match what
Rietveld can be like), the program will try to
fit the following in a tight time frame:
- Setting up a Rietveld program and creating the
input files.
- Profile fitting using Le Bail extraction
- Some structure refinement
- Quantitative Analysis.
- Various hints/tricks that may not be obvious
from reading the manuals.
----
The PCs are all linked to the internet and other
programs available for installation on the PCs will
include GSAS, GUIGSAS, Fullprof, Rietquan, MAUD,
Koalariet-XFIT, BGMN, CMPR, PowderX, Xpowder, etc.
Thus people can mix and match software packages
with the option of telling war stories of old.
----
It is possible to register for AXAA99 on the day
or for individual days.
