Hello Brett
John Parise here - coincidently I am going to be in Sydney briefly June 23.
If you have a schedule for the meeting please let me have it (what time
does it start - oral sessions, poster sessions etc ). We already have
plans to fly in from LA on Friday the 23rd and head to the Blue Mountains
with my in-laws for a week and then head back to the states - but could
perhaps change them. I could present a poster on recent high P experiments
on H-bonding and talk about plans for the SNS at Oak Ridge. We recently
had a very successful workshop on neutron scattering at "extreme
conditions" (supercritical fluids, protein unfolding under pressure and
inorganic materials from 2 - 2 million atm). Just thinking off the top of
my head right now - I was an AINSE scholar during my PhD and it would be
great to seee Margret, Chris etc again at building 58.

Australian Synchrotron Research Program Annual Users Meeting
First Circular and Call for Papers
The project to build a world-class neutron source and instrument suite to
replace HIFAR is underway.
Internationally competitive powder diffraction instruments are a high
priority and planning for
their development will start soon. This meeting is intended to provide a
forum for all Australian
researchers who now use or are interested in using neutron diffraction
techniques on powdered and
polycrystalline samples, here and overseas. The meeting will include an
introduction to powder
diffraction by an international expert, research papers and an opportunity
to make input
to the planning process for powder diffraction at the new research reactor.
The organisers cordially invite you to attend the Symposium to talk about
your research, techniques
and the future. We intend that the Symposium will be a valuable experience
for research students.
Invited Speakers:
Dr Alan Hewat, Head, Diffraction Group, Institute Laue-Langevin, Grenoble,
France
Professor Klaus Yvon, Professor of Crystallography, University of Geneva,
Switzerland
Symposium topics:
* Crystal structure solution
* Quantitative Phase Analysis
* Microstructure
* Residual stress
* Disordered and amorphous materials
* In-situ studies
* Instrumentation
