The researcher Vegner Utuni and his co-workers (in Brazil), members of the LabCACC (Computational Laboratory of Crystallographic and Crystalline Analyses) group, present to the Rietvelders Community a distribution of the operational system GNU/Linux (Stallman et al., 1984; Torvalds et al., 1991), named Kcristal, whose main merit is to collect, develop and distribute crystallographic softwares in a simplified way.

Kcristal is available as a CD image in ISO format at http://labcacc.iq.unesp.br/kcristal. Kcristal is a freeware which can be redistributed and modified in the terms set by the GNU General Public License, version 2.2 (GNU 2004).

Any suggestions and critics from the Community for possible corrections and improvements of the present distribution are welcome.

In a near future, an article including more details about this distribution will be available so that our fellows may have a better understanding of the philosophy intended within this distribution.

Sincerely yours,

Hamilton Perez Soares Corra.
