shape of the instrumental profiles

Dear colleagues:   Does anyone know why the instrumental profiles (instrumental resolution) are generally Gaussian for low diffraction angles, whereas turns to Lorentzian for high diffraction angles?.   Any advice is greatly appreciated.   Thanks in advance,   Prof. Angel L. Ortiz
