On behalf of Prof. Ross Angel:
Dear Colleagues,
A postdoctoral position is available to
work on the project CEAD (COMPRES Environment for
Automated Data analysis). The successful
candidate will develop a prototype automated data
analysis environment for diffraction data
collected in high-pressure experiments using
angle-dispersive powder diffraction. The postdoc
will develop a user environment using Python that
will automate and serialize currently available
software packages. The initial data analysis
pipe will take raw image plate or CCD images,
integrate them, and derive lattice parameters
using whole pattern decomposition to yield unit
cell volumes as a function of temperature and
pressure. The CEAD software package will
encapsulate the programs fit2d and GSAS and
provide utilities for deriving unit cell volumes.
Although Virginia Tech will be the academic home
for the project, the postdoc will initially work
with Paul Adams and his group at Lawrence
Livermore National Laboratory, Berkeley,
California in the design and production of the
necessary software and then roll out the
completed product to the central facilities as
well as interested academic and national
laboratory groups. The successful candidate will
also be responsible for implementing the CEAD
package at national laboratories and university
departments, training new users, and implementing
a web-based roll-out package and user manuals.
Further details about the requirements for this
position and instructions as to how to apply
available at http://www.crystal.vt.edu/crystal/positions.html

Vincent
thankyou for the suggestions. As I am not a
member of either email group, I would be very
grateful if you could post the announcement on my
behalf. I have copied below in a nicer font size!
Thankyou
Ross

Hi,
Since this is for powder diffraction, you
may want to send that to the ILL
Rietveld list ([email protected]) and the sdp ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) list as
well, which are both popular in the powder community. I can forward them if
you want.
