Hi Alberto,

On an X'Pert pro diffractometer, the FDS and FASS are physically the same. On your diffractometer, you have just to put one slit in the anti-divergence position (close to the X-ray tube) and another one in the anti-scatter position (in front of the sample). The size of the divergent slit has to be half compared to the anti-scatter slit. For example, if you put a 1/4° slit in the anti-divergent position you have to put a 1/2° slit in the anti-scatter position.

Regards,

Nicolas

Dear all,

my laboratory recently inherited an old X’Pert PRO diffractometer. Previous owners labelled some of the slits as FDS (Fixed Divergence Slit) or FASS (Fixed Anti-Scatter Slit), but most of the slits have no label. Actually, I cannot see any evident difference between FDS, FASS and other slits, so I’m wondering if a difference is really present or, conversely, if I can use each slit as a FASS or FDS, depending on my needs.

Thanks in advance,
Alberto
