Colleagues, I would like to draw your attention to the permanent position as Principal Researcher/ Research Leader in Mineral Sciences at The Natural history Museum, London, UK. The complete advert can be found at:- Natural History Museum (nhm.ac.uk)<https://careers.nhm.ac.uk/templates/CIPHR/jobdetail_internal_2842.aspx>
The Natural History Museum houses one of the world's most significant mineral collections and an extensive X-ray diffraction laboratory offering a range of single-crystal, powder, micro-diffraction and dynamic in situ capabilities. As either a Research Leader or Principal Researcher you will complement our existing mineral science by developing a research profile that explores the fundamental properties of minerals in any chosen area of mineralogy. Aspects could include (but are not limited to) mineral properties, behaviours, systematics and functionalities in order to explore their influence on geological, structure-property correlations, environmental, planetary, surface systems and functional applications. You will support your research group by taking an active role within the NHM doctoral training programs, our extensive collaborations with other research groups both within the NHM and externally, and preparing research funding proposals. Your role will additionally benefit from the strong and well-established link with the Mineral Physics Group at University College London and the freedom to drive new NHM science initiatives that may have intrinsic links to the mineralogical collections as well as utilising synthetic analogues. You will have an extensive understanding of mineral structures, properties, crystal-chemistry and functionality, and have significant practical experience with X-ray powder diffraction or single-crystal instruments. You will be committed to undertaking original research and developing a group with an international reputation for high-quality mineral science. You will develop and/or lead mineral science research associated with geological, planetary and/or environmental systems, growing your research interests by taking advantage of a range of funding opportunities. You should have a genuine enthusiasm for school, community and public engagement, contributing to a range of Museum activities and "Digital NHM" programmes. The closing date for applications is 23:00 (BST), Friday, 7th July 2023 Regards, Paul Schofield ************************************* Dr Paul Schofield Head of Mineral Sciences Natural History Museum Cromwell Road London SW7 5BD United Kingdom www.nhm.ac.uk/our-science/departments-and-staff/staff-directory/paul-schofield.html<https://www.nhm.ac.uk/our-science/departments-and-staff/staff-directory/paul-schofield.html>
