Well, from looking at the history, I don't think that the code contributions up to now have had anything to do with the fact that it's a copy-left license. It has mostly been people that never intended to redistribute RIFE by themselves, so there were never any obligations to contribute back. While I am a proponent of copy-left licenses since I think that it's normal to give back when you receive the whole thing for free, I'm starting to think though that it actually doesn't make much difference in practice. So nowadays I'm starting to think that reducing the user-base due to more a restrictive license, is worse than the risk of someone not contributing back.
