I already pointed at MS Visual Studio , aka the .net environment for asp pages or whatever its called now, but I know that they are also working towards making AJAX easy, same with some other vendors. In order to be working on something that has all the hype and will not be oldfashioned when it comes out, I think you have to try to make something that is both AJAX, but also provides a good fallback for e.g. search engines or other blind users.
That is out-of-scope, we need to design a solution for widget-level componentization, not a whole component suite. That will or will not follow, by the RIFE core team or though contributions. I agree thought that when they're done they should degrade gracefully.
