Hi Legolas,

1-What is Advantage of Rife over Spring and Struts ?

RIFE is a full-stack framework, which means that with one jar you get most functionalities you need. They all work perfectly together and benefit from cross-layer integration. You don't have to spent any time in trying to get them to work together and everything propagates consistently. This is just scratching the bare surface.

I'm pointing you to some mailinglist threads that could give you some more information:
http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.java.rife.user/1616
http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.java.rife.user/948
http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.java.rife.user/950

Maybe some other users can comment on this?

2-Can we make Portlet by using rife ?

Not yet, but our component object model provides you with embedded elements that have the same semantics. Official portlet support both for the creation and the integration is on the roadmap for future releases. After having spoken with Doug Bateman (portlet expert) it was very obvious that this will not be a lot of work.

3-is there any ready to use basic web application which is made over rife ? An application with features like : register/login/ logout.... , Theme enabled , .... ?

Sure, there are many. You can for example check out our examples:
http://rifers.org/examples

There's also the simple blog tutorial with downloadable source:
http://rifers.org/rife_indepth_simple_blog

and the eCalendar RIFE/Crud example:
http://rifers.org/theater/rifecrud_intro_tutorial

The rifers.org site is also available through Subversion:
https://svn.rifers.org/rifers/trunk/

There are also a bunch of larger open-source projects:
http://www.blablalist.com/
https://bamboo.dev.java.net/
http://drone.codehaus.org/
https://elephant.dev.java.net/

4-If it is not something like Struts can we use struts with it ?
5-can we use it with jsf ?

RIFE is installed as one simple filter in web.xml. Any URL that it hasn't got a mapping for will simply for processed onwards in the filter chain. You can thus integrate it with any other Java web framework you like.

You can also share your models and DAO layer.

6-Is there any IDE supporting rife ?

There's basic support for X-develop and Eclipse, you can find this at the bottom of this page:
http://rifers.org/wiki/display/RIFE/Home

More comprehensive IDE support is being worked on, you can find more information here:
http://rifers.org/wiki/display/RIFE/IdePlugins

Best regards,

Geert
