For me, there are two sweet spots and that's because I've used RIFE both for web and for non-web related work. a) RIFE is self-contained *and* a full stack, for me this means that all the basics (and then some!) are there and nothing else is absolutely required. There are lots of other things I can add on top, but the strength here is that those extras are *optional*. This means a lot on environments where space is constrained. b) The drop-in RIFE/jumpstart is a gem. It's so damn easy to start playing within it that it's become my generic starting platform for new projects. > 2. What type of scenarios does it not fit into? It uses a some features that aren't yet available in FOSS java stacks... this will quickly improve in 2006 and my hope is to be able to create an optimised distributable such that a JVM, class library (stripped of unused packages like Swing), container, RIFE and user application could be linked into a single executable with something like JET or GCJ. Ok, that's ambitious, but really, being able to drop a pre-configured (or dynamically configurable AS with a bundled JVM and RIFE) would seriously be nice for hot deployment. Places RIFE doesn't fit... J2ME and JavaCard! For now at least :) Thanks, Steph -- ================================================================ Stephane Meslin-Weber Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Senior Software Engineer Web: http://odonata.tangency.co.uk ================================================================
