Please try moving the jars outside the web application.

No, for these tests, I left the JPOX libraries (including the Log4J JARs) in WEB-INF/lib.

I no longer get the exception using regular JSP now that I am using the correct versions of the JPOX libraries. (In fact, the fact that there was already a version mismatch between the JARs from JPOX and Apache JDO projects complicated the matter even more.)

Also:

I am using the 20060407 RIFE snapshot (JDK 1.5 version). I am not using the init param to disable the RIFE classloader.
