the ring password protects only the optional ring nickname association - the ring account does not require one - the account can be restored on another machine without associating it with a nickname if a (highly recommended) backup copy of the ring credentials exists if the credentials were lost then the only option is to create a new account and all of your contacts would need to be added again and they would need to delete your lost account add your new account
