Hello everyone,

As you may have notice we have experienced a few problems this week. The Ring
website is down and some of you cannot connect to the DHT network anymore
(although SIP and IP2IP accounts should still work). These are two different
issues and this message is intended to explain what's going on and what we are
doing to get back on track.
Why is the Ring website down?
Our ring.cx backend has been hacked. It happens to the biggest and smartest
guys but we must admit that we have delayed a critical Drupal security update a
bit too long and, bang! Bad guys out there took advantage of it to gain control
of our web server. It took us a while to realize and now our Infrastructure
team at Savoir-faire Linux is working on fixing it. They must analyze the
damage first, get everything back under control and take appropriate steps to
ensure that it will not happen again. The server is still down but it should
get back online and well soon. We'll let you know.
What's up with DHT?

In the meantime, we have dramatically upgraded the performance of Ring's
OpenDHT connection component (https://github.com/savoirfairelinux/opendht). It
is now much faster and reliable but the trade-off is that it is not compatible
with earlier versions. Right now, as a matter of fact, you should not be able
to use your Ring's DHT accounts that you set up earlier. But as soon as you
will apply the latest Ring update it should work again and you will be able to
experiment the progress we made by yourself.
How can you update?
1- Manual Update
Until the Ring website is back online you have to:

    * Browse to your distribution's depository on our GPL server (which as not
been compromized): http://gpl.savoirfairelinux.net/ring-download/
    * download the appropriate latest nightly build
    * install it manually

2- Automatic update
Linux clients may not update automatically from the nightly file repository.
This is because of DNS pointers which are broken right now. This will also be
addressed soon, however, and the automatic update functionality will be
recovered soon even if you upgrade manually.

I hope this makes it for now. Feel free to ask any questions on this mailing
list.

Please remember that Ring is still an early beta software that brings a lot of
innovation in the field of distributed audio-video communications but that
still needs to strenghten and mature. Our Ring project team is working hard on
this project and we appreciate your cooperation in studying, using, testing,
reporting bugs, and contributing with us if you can.

Thank you all.
