So, as you are on a GNU/Linux, you can check in /var/log/syscall to see if you get an dring error message about failure to open /dev/video0 (0 or more, depending on you system). If yes, in general it's a system issue: you can validate that by trying, right after seeing the issue, to launch another tools like "cheese" to see if /dev/video* is accessible. If no, send the log with lines around the failure. We'll try to help you after.
