Is there a kind of common understanding what this mailing list is about? What
its purpose is?
This is the general discussion list for topics related to RIPE Atlas.
I see important discussions such as those on private measurements but no
conclusions… I ask questions that lead to response from a RIPE employee but not
to answers/solutions…
We put forward some proposals about changing properties of RIPE Atlas
behaviour, and there are ongoing discussions. We (the development team)
are supporting that discussion, though during the holiday period that
surely was not at full swing...
(For instance on why results from first hop measurement to ping.ripe.net cannot
be reported on by Magellan.)
(Will answer that separately.)
Can RIPE give some explanation what the use for them is of this mailing list?
The mailing list page describes it as: "This mailing list is open to
anyone with an interest in sharing experiences and information about the
project."
Are there other entries into RIPE for support questions?
Many questions are answered on this list in a "community self support"
fashion. If you want / need to write to support, then you should address
[email protected] - which is ticketised.
Would some kind of forum not be a much better solution to discuss matters with
probe “owners” instead of using old fashioned unstructured mailing lists… the
way we did things when the internet was in its infancy?
The RIPE NCC introduced a forum (forum.ripe.net) a short while ago.
There are some RIPE Atlas related topics there too.
