In my personal opinion, one of the major reasons is for presentors to
present their work and/or views, so that people can talk to them
afterwards and discuss with the presenter. A 5 minute public mic session
is a very limited channel compared to a personal discussion with the
presenter.
At least a feedback up on the quality of the presentation itself.
That is why we have a presentation and session feedback/evaluations
mechanism.
