Dear colleagues,
for this month's edition of "Ecological Sustainability in Internet
Infrastructure" news,
I'd like to invite you to an online event, organised by yours-truly &
RIPE NCC, this week:
2 October 2024 (10:00-11:30 UTC)
"Green Technology and Sustainability in Internet Technologies"
Register at:
https://www.ripe.net/meetings/open-house/green-tech-and-sustainability-in-internet-technologies-2-oct-2024/
We will be discussing the role of Internet technologies in addressing
environmental concerns and fostering sustainable practices, with amazing
speakers:
* Mallory Knodel, Executive Director of the Social Web Foundation,
presenting "Beyond Carbon". [1]
Mallory will explore strategies for reducing technology’s environmental
impact beyond traditional carbon reduction measures.
* Max Schulze, Director at Leitmotiv, presenting "Let’s Be Responsible:
On the Practice of Software Engineering and Sustainability".
Max will highlight the importance of responsible software development
and its role in creating a more sustainable future. [2]
* Prof. Wim Vanderbauwhede, Professor in Computing Science, presenting
"The Insatiable Hunger of AI".
Wim’s talk will examine the enormous energy demands of AI, the resulting
CO₂ emissions, and the environmental impact of building the hardware to
support AI’s projected growth. [3]
Below you can find my selection of work by each speaker.
And, if you want to get more active on this topic, join the Green Tech
