The good thing about USB 2.0/Firewire drive enclosures
is that you can add a drive to the system even if
you're run out of room or drive channels.  It doesn't
add much to the cost of the drive, it's reasonably
fast, and it can be hot-swapped and/or stored offsite.

Although with your needs, you may want to look into a
Buffalo TeraStation or an Infrant ReadyNAS if you can
afford it.
