Hi there first, if you're new to this, you might want to have a look aorund http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?BeginnersGuide and in particular the pages on Ripping, Tagging and Organising.
Slimserver really doesn't care how you organise your files - either in the file names or the directory structure. As long as it has a single directory it can look in, you should be fine. What is important is the way the tags have been added, so checking (using Tag&Rename, or Mp3tag) that you have what you think you should have is a good idea. EAC, btw, should be able to name files in pretty much any way that you want, it is very flexible. When you were able to tell Slimserver to play the file, how did you find it? Was it by Browse Music Folder (which just reads the directory structure) or was it by Artist or Album (which would suggest it had read the tags correctly)? And - always a good idea, when messing about, to rescan the library (including the clear option).
