It's not a case of adding to a future version of flac, or not. Actually, metaflac supports reaplygain (it's what I use in my script). The issue is simply one of logistics. To calculate album gain, you need to scan *all* tracks in the album then go back and write the replay gain tags. This is impossible to do at encode time which is why the --replay-gain switch in flac only writes track gain. Hope this clarifies the situation.
