for any Windows OS you can use dbPoweramp. It's very easy to use. I open an explorer window and go to where my music directory is - hit F3 to bring up search - type *.ape to search for ape's and then highlight (crtl-a) all the ape's - right click and convert. Dbpoweramp will overwrite or whatever you want. Real easy and pretty fast ;) It does preserve tags if you set it up that way. Lots of pluggins available for different conversion types.
