Yep.  Think about it this way, to play 5 minutes of audio with an mp3
you have to read about 5 MB of data from the disk.  To play the same
amount of time you have to read 50MB of data from the disk for
lossless.  So the disk is active 10x as much for the same amount of
play time.

NOTE: numbers mention above are very rough figures just to make a
point, do not take them as exact ;)
