1. Notice the above script copies the CD track info to the iTunes
imported
WAV file's iTune tag section only. If you play them in Slim Server you
will
still see the original, different tags.

2. However, if you convert the WAV to any of the iTunes format, ALAC
(Apple Lossless), AIFF, AAC, or MP3, the Slim Server will see the
iTunes
tag set the script copied into, instead of the set in the original WAVs
from
the ripper.

3. If you wish you can convert the WAV to AIFF or ALAC, and then back
to
WAV, to let the Slim Server to use the new tags in WAV format.

4. There are questions in the web forums weather the ALAC is really
lossless.
It is easy to obtain an answer but I am surprised so far I have seen no
one did
it.

So tonight I downloaded the Wave Editor 1.22, opened the original WAV
file,
added a layer, and then opened the second WAV file, that was converted
from
an ALAC in iTunes. The ALAC was converted in iTunes from the original
WAV,
so it was a round trip WAV -> ALAC -> WAV.

I copied the second WAV, and pasted it to the 2nd layer, set the layer
property
to "Substract", and flattened the layers. The results are all zeros
from both
the analyzer (with the All selected) or visually. This proves that the
Apple
Lossless is indeed lossless.

However, I tried this for 4 different tracks, and for one I did find a
difference
after the round trip: the iTunes omitted the last ~0.2 seconds in the
ALAC,
so that there there were huge differences after the substraction, at
the very
very end.

This proofs that the subtraction method is working as supposed, and
that
the iTunes convertion is less than 100% reliable. However, I tried the
round
trip convertion of the very same track twice afterwards, and in both
times
the iTunes convertions were accurate -- nothing was chopped off. So
the
occurance was just a glitch? I am going to ask Apple.

Thanks,
Leping
