I use a different approach. I keep everything in a single iTunes library. For the iPod, I sync with a smart playlist that only contains compressed music. For the SB, I configure SS to ignore tracks that don't have the iTunes checkmark set (which is the default, I believe). I then clear the checkmark on all compressed tracks EXCEPT those for which I don't have an uncompressed version (typically purchased music).
