I believe that's correct. Different programs label the same tag differently - TPE2 is called variously 'BAND', 'ALBUMARTIST', 'ALBUM ARTIST', depending on the program. I use it almost exclusively for non-compilation albums. For instance, an album of with guest artist on some tracks, or an album in which some tracks were recorded by other than the main artist. In all cases these are grouped correctly with the album artist. Whether the COMPILATION=0 tag is critical for this behavior, I couldn't say - it may be.
