I believe that's correct. Different programs label the same tag
differently - TPE2 is called variously 'BAND', 'ALBUMARTIST', 'ALBUM
ARTIST', depending on the program. I belive iTunes uses the term BAND,
while most often it's talked about with respect to SlimServer as
ALBUMARTIST.

What version of SlimServer are you using? There was a recent update in
the 6.5.1 nightlies that may have fixed (or maybe broken :) this
behavior.

I use it almost exclusively for non-compilation albums. For instance,
an album of with guest artist on some tracks, or an album in which some
tracks were recorded by other than the main artist. In all cases these
are grouped correctly with the album artist. Whether the COMPILATION=0
tag is critical for this behavior, I couldn't say - it may be. For
example:

The Soundtrack "The Princess Bride" is done mostly by Mark Knopfler,
with a single track by another artist:

ALBUM=The Princess Bride
ALBUMARTIST=Mark Knopfler
ARTIST=Mark Knopfler
COMPILATION=0
TITLE=A Happy Ending
TRACKNUMBER=11

ALBUM=The Princess Bride
ALBUMARTIST=Mark Knopfler
ARTIST=Willy Deville
COMPILATION=0
TITLE=Storybook Love
TRACKNUMBER=12

The Frank Sinatra album "Duets":

ALBUM=Duets
ALBUMARTIST=Frank Sinatra
ARTIST=Frank Sinatra
ARTIST=Luther Vandross
COMPILATION=0
TITLE=The Lady Is A Tramp
TRACKNUMBER=1
