You're also achieving a better filesize than any lossless compression
can ever hope to achieve.

One could easily argue (if one were feeling argumentative) that the
only thing you achieve by insisting on FLAC as your format of choice is
that you don't have to go through the trouble of determining at which
quality level MP3 is totally transparent and sounds exactly like the CD
source, with the end result being that with FLAC you will waste a lot of
disk space for something you have yet to prove is even audibly different
than MP3.

Not that I use MP3 myself, but let's tone down the old time religion a
bit and just be helpful.
