I got the impression that in your case EAC just keeps running, without an error message. I've had some run a long time, hours, but usually they will end up coming up with an error message if they run that long. You could try another CD player if you have one.
I've had luck with dbPoweramp software (free for the basic version) for units that EAC can't process, but it will still take hours. Usually I'll save ripping those CDs for when I go to bed or to work. I've never had a commercial CD that I could not rip that did not have obvious damage. With one exception, the last track on a CD that runs over an hour sometimes can't be ripped. That is probably CD player dependent.
