I routinely set my genre to Rock/Pop/Alt/Folk in EAC .. never had a
problem ... here's what my command line looks like

-T "artist=%a" -T "title=%t" -T "album=%g" -T "date=%y" -T
"tracknumber=%n" -T "genre=%m" %s
