I don't *think* you can tell from the player what format it's receiving. "Now Playing" gives the original track format.
What I do is to look at the processes that are running. If you are transcoding FLAC=>WAV then you should see a flac process running. If you aren't transcoding then there wont be a flac and/or lame process. Similar for WAV. No transcoding, no additional processes. Transcoding will show a flac or lame process.
