It just means that the files are there and are readable by SS - when
you browse music fiolder it reads the file system, unlike all the other
browses when it is reading the database.

Here is the key question, though: normal behaviour is that AFTER you
have found something by Browse Music folder, it should show up in the
database and be visible by the other browse methods (this is a common
trick to get SS to scan just one new CD, say).  Does this work for you?
If not, try repeating this process with some debug flags like d_scan
set, you should see something in the debug log about what is going on
when it tries to scan those files.  Just go to Server Settings -
Debug.
