I typically consider the most recent incarnation of the artist's name the canonical name (I believe it's John Mellencamp these days). The canonical name is the name used for browsing, filing under, etc. Then I do this (using an older album as an example):
ARTIST=John Cougar ARTISTSORT=Mellencamp, John Cougar ALBUMARTIST=John Cougar Mellencamp Tagged like this, when browsing by artists, all JCM/JC/JM albums will be under the same artist, sorted under M. When playing the tracks, however, the artist name will show how it was at the time the album was recorded (which I actually like to see). If you don't like the historical information, you could just re-tag everything using the canonical name. This system works fine IF you have an album in your collection where the ARTIST=canonical name with the correct ARTISTSORT. Otherwise, it will sort it under J. Canonical artist support isn't really complete in SlimServer until it supports ALBUMARTISTSORT, and there's a bug filed for this already. -- CatBus ------------------------------------------------------------------------ CatBus's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7461 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36005 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/ripping
