for all the replies and especially for the link I should have found myself from amclusent. i think i am going to try orange; my principal use will be straightforward cataloging (so I avoid purchasing duplicates, for example). Of course there is always the need to clean up metadata. I also like to track multiple recordings of the same song to see how performers differ in their treatment and how songs evolve over time.
