If there are no COMPOSER tags, then it sounds like a different problem,
and not sure the upgrade will do the job for you. It does sound like
something has changed with the Artist info.

A bit more info would be helpful - what format are the files and how
are you tagging them?

Also, how are you checking the tag info in the files?

If you're using Itunes or MusicBrainz (for example) those programs
include tags that don't show up when viewed in those programs (and
can't be viewed by every tagging program).

MP3tag which I mentioned below is a good program for seeing everything
, Tag & Rename and Foobar are others that I would recommend for seeing
every tag that's been included in your files.

One possibility I can think of is that you're using mp3 files and there
is an inconsistency between the ID3v1 tag for Artist and the Id3v2 tags.
Or that there's some inconsistency between Artist and AlbumArtist tags
for the album?

I would probably recommend trying Mp3Tag, Foobar or Tag & Rename (all
free or free to try) and "forcing" a save of the ARTIST and ALBUMARTIST
tags so they are consistent within the album. Then doing a full clear
and rescan.
