FLAC can't compress that much - sounds like you're creating 320kbps MP3s. I don't have the stats in front of me, but I'm sure I don't have a single FLAC that has a bitrate as low as that. Are you sure you are creating .FLAC files, not MP3s? The constant bit rate you allude to also makes me think this may be the issue.
