All, May be a bit late chipping in here but for music cataloging I use Music Collector - excellent product that provides lots of cataloging (databasing) features. It can scan CDs for info and queries 'freedb'-like database for infomation - you can also manually catalog vinyl, tapes, etc... I also use it to log CDs that are on my "wanted" list.
A companion product is MP3 Collector which can auto catalog digital music on your system (useful for downloaded tracks)- this can be linked to Music Collector for a complete solution. FYI - there are also other modules for DVD, Comic, Photo and Book cataloging databases.... The only catch? It costs money - but money well spent in my opinion.
