I'd recommend tagging albums (or possibly even tracks, if you feel inclined) with whatever genre you feel it fits into, rather than tagging with respect to the artist. For instance, I'd tag a Jazz/Christmas/Vocal album by Harry Conick Jr. with all three genres, whereas an instrumental jazz album by the same artist would only be tagged Jazz. One thing this let's you do is filter albums by genre when you browse by genre. The hierarchy of browsing by genre is Genre, Artist, Album. So when you browse Jazz, you'll only see the Jazz albums when you get to the artist. Another reason for this would be for random play. If you have an artist, say Yo Yo Ma, who has recorded classical, jazz, acoustic folk, bluegrass and other types of albums, then you won't end up with bluegrass tunes in your classical mix. I try to take a minimalist approach to genres, trying to limit them to as few a possible. Even so, I've still ended up with more than 20. Some people take the opposite approach, to sometimes humorous degrees. Instead of "70's Speed Metal" I'll just call it "Rock" and be happy. > I'm entering all genres and separating each one with a semi-colon. > What I can't seem to see is where in the latest version of > SqueezeCenter 7, I can define the delimiter so that my system knows how > to interpret these multiple genres. If you're using Flac, Ogg, or Ape (and perhaps a few other formats) you can have multiple Genre tags, instead of having to separate things with a delimiter. That's generally the recommended approach in tagging systems that allow more than one tag with the same name. SqueezeCenter, though, should work with either approach. -- JJZolx Jim ------------------------------------------------------------------------ JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41618 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/ripping
