hi all;

i am new here - my SB is still with UPS but i am trying to do my
homework before it arrives next week.

i plan to rip the majority of my CDs into two hard drives [one is a
shadow back-up] and the get rid of the CDs - so quality is very
important. [space issues]

EAC has been highly recommended, here and elsewhere, but to tell the
truth, it is a little too complicated for me. is there another program
[freeware or inexpensive] that would give me EAC quality but in a more
user-friendly package? i am not a total computer novice but using EAC
never left me feeling confident that i was accomplishing what i
intended. if it matters, i am using OrangeCD 6.0 to catalog since some
of my music was downloaded or already digitized. it was recommended to
me here in the forum and i love it.

about compression.... i have been advised here to rip using FLAC,
which is fine. do i want compressed or uncompressed? taking up less
space would be nice but not at the expense of quality. i want my files
to be good enough that if i ever want to burn them to CD again, the
quality would be virtually identical to the original.

thanks, in advance, for your help. the people on this board are
great!
