EAC is doing exactly what you're asking of it.  Laptop drives are
generally crappy and you indicated the disc may not be the best so it's
working with what it has despite the time it takes.

WMP doesn't care, it rips as fast as the drive will allow and doesn't
check for errors.  Incidentally this is what EAC burst mode does, it
doesn't check for errors, which is why it's so much faster.

So it's a tradeoff - accuracy versus time.  Even on an undamaged disc
EAC will take longer because it does error checking.

dBpowerAMP has a good idea, rip in burst mode then do an AccurateRip
check, if everything's OK move on.  If it's not OK, re-rip with
error-checking on.  This would work for most people but not for me
because I have locally-pressed discs (Canadian) which aren't a
bit-perfect match with the American discs that populate the AccurateRip
database.  AccurateRip only works some of the time for me.
