Can we -please- do without the fanboy rhetoric? If the disc has a hardware problem the file is gone. Period. Vista might go into repair mode and tell you the file has been deleted as it's corrupt, Linux would run fsck and OSX would probably show you a cartoon icon of a frowning drive. Same result: hardware failure == data loss.
