What target db do you guys use? Here is my reason for my question. With most new CD's being of a relatively consistant "loud" volume, and only my older CD's being "quiet". It would seem logical to only boost the volume of the older CD's as these are less common than the loud new CD's.
But when I ran tests in both Music Monkey at a target of 89db and Foobar2000 (no adjustment for target), my test "quiet" CD (Carole King Tapestry) was reduced by -5db, while a newer loud CD was reduced by -11db. To use these number for leveling would require my entire collection of 30,000 flac files. Since quiet CD's are made even quieter. It would be easier if the reference db was more in the middle of road. Then if a CD was played that wasn't leveled it would be less likely to be WAY off.
