Thanks! Great advice. I tried the Excel (actually I used OpenOffice :) approach and overall pathlength limit seems to be indeed 256 characters (is this actually a Windows or a NAS limitation?).
I noticed the SETLEN command in dbP before, but I'm not quite sure so far, if or how I should make good use of it, because sometimes I trim the track title and sometimes the parent directory name.
