I came across a need to convert m4a files to FLAC recently. These were exported EyeTV recordings of BBC Radio 3 Prom concert broadcasts.
My trusty Max app couldn't do it, but after searching for a bit I found Switch: http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html The Swiss-Army-Knife of file converters, it seems; works a treat - installs FLAC components on demand. FLAC to MP3 however is very slow, but then Max handles this very well. Hope this helps others needing to convert audio file formats.
