If you see the tag corruption in mp3tag it certainly isn't a mySQL problem and is unrelated to Squeezecenter. There is no database involved when you view the tags in mp3tag. The tags are read from the files directly. SC doesn't have the ability to change the tags in the physical files in any way. The problem tags might have been this way for a long time and the problem has surfaced now when you switched to the latest SC version.
