Go to Device Manager and expand IDE ATAPI/ATA Controllers. Open the
Primary and Secondary IDE Channels using Advanced Settings and check
the DMA settings. If DMA is not enabled for the burner, the CPU
utilization will be excessive and will cause a temporary halting of the
drive as you are experiencing. Transfer Mode should be "DMA if
Available" and Current Transfer Mode for the burner should be "Ultra
DMA Mode 2".

If the drive is incorrectly set to PIO mode, Uninstall the offending
IDE channel (it will be redetected upon system restart). Restart the
computer and open the system BIOS to make sure that DMA capability is
properly set for the drive. Upon restart, hopefully the drive will be
operating in Ultra DMA mode (if it wasn't originally).
