I'm about to retag my music collection. I have been reading several posts in this forum - but I just can not find the answer I'm looking for. Perhaps there is not one answer. But I hope to make the right decission as retagging is quite a big job getting done.
What I like to be able to do is simple (well at least it seems simple): - Browsing artist and select from their albums, but in the artist list I only want to se the main artists. - Searching (if possible also browsing) among musicians to see on what albums/tracks they perform For controlling I use the standard remote and iPeng on an iTouch. On a small sample database (FLAC files tagged by mp3tag) I have tried to do it like this: ALBUM: Somethin' Else ALBUMARTIST: Cannonball Adderley ARTIST: Cannonball Adderley ARTIST: Miles Davis ARTIST: Hank Jones ARTIST: Sam Jones ARTIST: Art Blakey GENRE: Jazz YEAR: 1958 In my sampledatabase I have albums issued in the name of Miles Davis and Hank Jones (tagged as ALBUMARTIST) but none issued in the name of Sam Jones and Art Blakey. The problem is, when browsing and searching Miles Davis and Hank Jones Sometin' Else shows up as one of their albums (which is wrong). It seems that SC in its artist list takes ALBUMARTIST and ARTIST, as long as the artist is ALBUMARTIST somewhere else in the database. Another (minor) problem is, that all the artists are scrolling on the Transporter right display when playing Somethin' Else. I would prefer only Cannonball Adderley. I'm confused as what is the most simple way to it. I know I could do it using Custom Browse, but if there is a way I would prefer to do it without (keep it simple and iPeng not supporting plugins yet). What is confusing is all those different tag-fields (artist, albumartist, album artist, band, ensemple, performer etc.). I actually just need two of them: artist and musician.......... Last year I tried doing it with custom browse and making PERFORMER tags, where the musicians are devided by ";". But typing in the names in separate ARTIST tags is much easier.
