I also use iTunes Library Updater (iTLU v1.2.2.0) and am very happy with the results. My files are stored on a ReadyNAS Duo and my iTunes Library is locally stored on my laptop. I only use iTunes for loading the iPod. Otherwise I work with the files directly on the NAS and listen to them with the Squeezebox. After a busy period of adding files or editing tags, I use iTLU to refresh the iTunes library. With 30,000+ tracks, it's much faster than deleting the iTunes database and recreating it.
