Another DIY solution here, in the my study. The weight is taken entirely by the joists above the ceiling, there are some strong screws so that the entire unit is actually hanging. Next time, I'd add some horizontal supports to the shelves.
Every single CD is in a Jazzloft supplied slim wallet, so there's close to 2,500 CDs.
